Charles (Charlie) Luther Sifford was the first African American to Play on The PGA Tour.
Charlie broke the color barrier in 1961 when he received a special exemption to play in the Los Angeles Open.
Charlie Sifford faced discrimination and racism throughout his career, but persevered and became a pioneer for African Americans in golf.
He won two PGA Tour events, the 1967 Greater Hartford Open and the 1969 Los Angeles Open.
In recognition of his contributions to the game, Sifford was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004.
