Louis Oosthuizen was born on 19 October 1982 in Mossel Bay, South Africa.

In his early career he was supported financially by the foundation of fellow South African golfer Ernie Els.

As an amateur he won numerous titles before turning professional in 2002 at the age of 19.

Titles won as an amateur: 2000 World Junior Championship, 2001 All African Games (Kenya), 2001 Transvaal Amateur Stroke Play Championship (South Africa), 2002 Indian Amateur Open Championship (tied), 2002 Irish Amateur Open Championship and 2002 Natal Open Stroke Play Championship (South Africa).

Louis Oosthuizen has represented the International team in the Presidents Cup four times: 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019. He has an overall record of 9 wins, 6 losses, and 4 halves (9–6–4) in the event.

As of today he has won one major tournament, the 2010 Open Championship.

He also holds the distinction of finishing runner-up in all four major championships. He is the seventh golfer to accomplish this.

Louis Oosthuizen joined LIV Golf in 2022.

In 2009, Louis Oosthuizen founded the LOUIS57 Foundation, inspired by the sponsorship he received during his amateur years. Louis and his wife Nel-Mare, have a passion to support children with special needs. Foundation57 is the bridge between donors and the children in need.
