LIV Golf is the owner of the new Super Golf League (SGL) and is financed by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.
LIV Golf is providing an option for professional golfers to ply their trade through a series of events outside of the existing tours (most notably the USPGA Tour and the European Tour).
The structure of their events has some significant differences with 12 teams of 4 (48 players) competing over 3 rounds with no cuts and each round having a Gun Shot start. There are 8 events scheduled during the initial season with team and individual competitions in each event.
For many people, the most interesting question is which golfers will choose to participate as there are potential consequences.
At the time of writing it appears most professional golfers that choose to participate in the LIV Golf events will subsequently be banned from the PGA and European Tours which means, amongst other things, they will not be able to participate in any of the four Majors, Ryder Cup or President's Cup teams
