The USGA is the United States national association of golf courses, clubs and facilities. It also is the governing body of golf for the US and Mexico.
In 1894 the five founding clubs Chicago Golf Club, The Country Club, Newport Country Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and Saint Andrew's Golf Club got together to create the United States Golf Association (USGA).
Together with The R&A, the USGA produces and interprets the rules of golf and tests golf equipment for conformity with regulations.
The USGA provides the national handicap system and conducts 14 national championships, including the US Open, US Women's Open and US Senior Open.
