Karsten Solheim came up with a unique way to reward tour professionals for winning tournaments using ping putters. Each victory is commemorated by creating two gold plated replicas of the winning putter. One of them is given to the winning champion and the other one is kept at Ping's headquarters in Phoenix.
Both putters are engraved with the player's name and the tournament he or she won.
There are now close to 3,000 putters stored in the ping “Gold Putter Vault”. Putters are now added to the collection almost on a weekly basis.
The oldest putter dates back to 1962 when John Barnum won the Cajun Classic with a Ping model 69.
There are also more than 100 Major championship winning putters in the collection.
Over 500 of all the putters are the Ping Anser model.
