George W Cobb, although Tom Fazio oversaw an upgrade as the course was prepared for the PGA Championship held in 2017.
George Cobb designed a number of courses well known to golf followers. Arguably, his most recognised is the shortest, a 1,060 yard nine-hole course. He designed the par-3 course at Augusta National Golf Club that opened in 1959. Quail Hollow Club opened in 1961. Cobb also designed East Lake Golf Club, the regular host site of the Tour Championship. He was a scratch golfer who played on the college golf team at the University of Georgia.
