He quit all sports at age 12 except golf after going to the 1997 Masters and watching Tiger Woods dominate the field.
Scott attended Tennessee Tech, where he was a two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year. He won seven tournaments and was named an All-American in 2006.
After making his first hole-in-one at the age of 12, Scott decided he wanted to be a professional golfer on the PGA TOUR.
Scott earned his first tour card for 2011. In the same year he won his first PGA tournament, the Greenbier Classic with a total score of 270 (-10). He defeated Bob Estes and Bill Haas in a playoff.
He won the 2012 True South Classic with a total score of 264 (-24). Runner up was Jason Bohn 2 shots behind.
He won the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open with a total score of 279 (-9). Runners up were K. J. Choi, Jason Day, Graham DeLaet, Marc Leishman and Pat Perez 1 shot behind.
Scott finished runner-up at the 2022 BMW Championship, which won him a place in the Tour Championship, and an exemption for the 2023 Masters Tournament in April 2023.
He tied for 23rd at the 2023 Masters Tournament.
In recognition of their contributions to golf in Tennessee, the Stallings family was named Persons of the Year for 2022 by the Tennessee Golf Foundation.
