Lucas Herbert was born on 5 December 1995 in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia.

Herbert started playing golf at age three and honed his skills at Neangar Park Golf Club and Commonwealth Golf Club.

As an amateur he won the 2011 Tamar Valley Junior Cup, 2011 Victoria Junior Amateur and 2012 New South Wales Boy's Amateur.

As an amateur, he represented Australia in the 2014 Eisenhower Trophy, finishing tied for the second-best individual score behind Jon Rahm.

He turned professional in 2015 playing mostly on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

In 2018, Herbert began playing the European Tour.

He won the 2020 Omega Dubai Desert Classic with a total score of 279 (-9). He defeated Christiaan Bezuidenhout in a playoff.

In 2021 he won the Irish Open which qualified him into the 2021 Open Championship.

He won the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship with a total score of 269 (-15). Runners up were Danny Lee and Patrick Reed 1 shot behind.

He won the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship in Japan with a total score of 265 (-15). He defeated Aaron Cockerill in a playoff.

He joined the LIV Golf League in 2024 and is a member of the Ripper GC team.
