Ian Harold Woosnam was born on 2nd of March 1958 in England. Though small in stature at 5 ft. 4½ in. he is a powerful striker of the golf ball.

Nicknamed 'Woosie', Ian started playing golf at the unique Llanymynech Golf Club, which straddles the Wales-England border.

He turned professional in 1976 and first played on the European Tour in 1979.

When he first started out on the European Tour he lived out of his campervan and would occasionally eat cans of baked beans due to tightness of funds.

In 2001, at the age of 43, Ian Woosnam became the oldest player to win the World Match Play Championship, which was not an official European Tour event at the time, when he beat Pádraig Harrington 2 & 1 in the final.

In total Ian won 52 professional tour titles including the Masters Tournament in 1991.

In 2017 Ian was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
