The first official Ryder Cup was played in the United States in 1927 at Worcester Country Club in Worcester, Massachusetts.
In 1927 a Ryder Cup "Deed of Trust" was drawn up formalising the rules of the contest. Each of the PGA organisations had their own selection process.
Although not in the rules at that time, the American PGA restricted their team to those born in the United States.
Since 1979 the most significant change to the Ryder Cup has been the inclusion of continental European golfers.
Worcester Country Club was founded in 1900 as a private country club.
Golf course architect Donald Ross built an 18-hole golf course in 1913.
Worcester Country Club hosted the the men's US Open in 1925 and the women's US Open in 1960.
