Shōjirō Ishibashi, a Japanese businessman, founded the Bridgestone Corporation in 1931 in the city of Kurume, Fukuoka, Japan.

Bridgestone first produced golf balls in 1935. It was not until 1972 that the company's involvement in golf expanded into the manufacture of clubs.

In 1972 Bridgestone reached an agreement with the American sporting goods manufacturer Spalding to form Bridgestone Spalding Co., Ltd.

In 1982 Bridgestone introduced its two-piece Altus golf ball. It was similar to Spalding’s Top-Flite and marketed to the amateur golfer looking for distance and durability.

In 1990 Bridgestone released new golf balls under the brand name Precept.

In 1992 Nick Faldo scored a breakthrough win for Bridgestone by capturing the Open Championship at Muirfield with a Precept Tour Double Cover.

In early 2018 Bridgestone scored a major deal when Tiger Woods signed to play with Bridgestone golf balls.
