Julius Boros at the age of 48
The second oldest winner of a golfing Major was Julius Boros (March 3, 1920 – May 28, 1994), who was 48 years, 4 months and 18 days when he won the USPGA in 1968. He remains the second oldest winner of any of golf's major championships.
Boros was born in Fairfield, Connecticut of Hungarian descent.
He originally worked as an accountant playing high-standard amateur golf.
He turned professional when he was 29 years old in 1949.
Boros won 3 Major Championships: The US Open (1952), the US Open (1963) and the USPGA Championship (1968).
He also holds 15 other PGA Tour wins.
Winning the 2021 PGA Championship, Phil Mickelson became the oldest major championship winner at the age of 50 years and 11 months.
