TPC River Highlands in Cromwell
Jim Furyk shot an incredible 58 on the PGA Tour during the final round of the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut on August 7, 2016.
TPC River Highlands is an exclusive private golf club and part of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour. Since 1984 it has been the venue for the annual Travelers Championship.
The course is par 70 and 6,841 yards (6,255 m) long.
In his round of 58 Furyk hit all 18 greens in regulation, made 10 birdies and one eagle and needed just 24 putts.
Furyk is also the first player to shoot two rounds below 60 and he was the oldest to do it. He was 46 years old at the time.
Did you know that Furyk's playing partner, Miguel Angel Carballo, mistakenly marked him down for an additional birdie on the par-4 14th. Furyk made a par. Luckily they found the mistake before signing and turning in the scorecard. If they hadn't corrected the mistake he would have been disqualified.
Furyk turned professional in 1992 and quickly established himself on the Nike Tour, winning his first tournament in 1993. He joined the PGA Tour in 1994 and maintained a streak of winning at least one tournament each year from 1998 to 2003, a feat only matched by Tiger Woods during that period.
U.S. Open Champion (2003): Furyk's most significant victory came at the U.S. Open, where he tied the record for the lowest score in tournament history.
PGA Tour Player of the Year (2010): This award recognized his outstanding performance, including three tournament victories that year.
Record Holder: In 2016, Furyk made history by shooting his 12-under-par 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship, marking the lowest score ever recorded in a PGA Tour event.
Furyk has been a key player in several Ryder Cup teams, participating nine times between 1997 and 2018. He served as captain for the U.S. team in 2018 and at the 2024 Presidents Cup, having previously captained the team in 2011.
