Mike Cowan was born on the 7th of February 1948 in Winslow, Maine.

Fluff was an assistant professional at a golf club prior to becoming a caddie. After losing his job as an assistant pro he tried his hand at caddying. Initially Fluff found it hard to get a steady gig as he caddied for different players each week. Ed Sabo was his first steady job before caddying for Peter Jacobsen and Tiger Woods before picking up Jim Furyk's bag.

 Fluff was on the bag of Jim Furyk when he won the 2003 US Open and the 2021 US Senior Open.
