Liberty National Golf Club golf course was designed by Robert E. Cupp and Tom Kite.
Robert (Bob) E Cupp designed a number of courses, principally in the United States including Shoal Creek Club in Alabama where he worked as senior designer for Jack Nicklaus.
Tom Kite has 19 PGA tour victories including the US Open in 1992. Tom represented the United States in seven Ryder Cups before captaining the team in 1997.
The course cost $250 million to build, making it one of golf's most ambitious undertakings. Almost 90% of the cost was to remediate the site that was previously an oil terminal. Six million cubic feet of sand and earth was imported to the site. The membership remains exclusive with an initiation fee rumoured to be approximately $450,000.
